A WebAuthn credential the authenticator can find by site alone, so the user does not have to type a username first. Also called a resident key.
Passkeys are discoverable credentials. Because the authenticator stores the user handle with the credential, the browser can ask "which accounts do you have for this site?" and offer a list. This is what enables sign-in with one tap and no username. Non-discoverable credentials need the site to supply a credential ID first.
