SHORT ANSWER
How do I create a passkey for Google on Android?
Turn on HostSpica Identity as your passkey provider in system settings, open your Google Account passkey settings, choose Create a passkey, pick HostSpica Identity in the sheet that appears and unlock with your fingerprint or screen lock. Then sign out and test it.
Key takeaways
- You need Android 14 or newer and a screen lock.
- Enable HostSpica Identity as a provider once in system settings.
- Choose it in the save sheet when Google offers to create the passkey.
- The passkey stays on this phone only, so keep another sign-in method.

Before you start
- Android 14 or newer, with a screen lock set.
- HostSpica Identity installed.
- A way to sign in to Google that does not rely on this passkey, such as your password and phone prompts.
Steps
- Open HostSpica Identity and go to the Passkey tab. If it asks you to enable the provider, follow the prompt to your phone's passkey settings, which on many phones is under Settings, then Passwords, passkeys and accounts. Names differ by phone.
- Choose HostSpica Identity as an enabled provider and confirm.
- In a browser, sign in to your Google Account and open myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/passkeys.
- Choose Create a passkey, then Create a passkey again, as Google's help describes.
- In the sheet that opens, pick HostSpica Identity as the place to save it. If it is not offered, look for the option to choose another place to save.
- Unlock with your fingerprint, face or screen lock.
- Sign out of Google and sign in again with the passkey to confirm.
What you should see
The new passkey appears in the Passkey tab of HostSpica Identity with the site name, and in the Google Account passkey list. We have tested HostSpica Identity passkeys on Google, GitHub, Microsoft and webauthn.io in Chrome and Brave, including creating a passkey, signing in and the duplicate-passkey check. We have not tested every site, and no site is guaranteed to accept it.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| HostSpica Identity not offered | Enable it as a provider and restart the browser |
| The sheet closes at once | Set a screen lock and try again |
| Google says one already exists | That is the duplicate check working. Use the existing passkey or remove it first. |
| Sign-in fails after creating | Use your other sign-in method and report it through the support page |
